Scotj Criss and Katerina Burner met on SL in November of 2008 and married in February 2009.
The Criss' have a real love of the arts. Since they have been together, they have been exposed to people's creativity in SL with friends, and friends of friends. They feel the talent in SL is "awesome, yet often people are unable to show their talent or perhaps unsure as to how." The Criss MCA was built in four weeks with the help of friends and colleagues they met along the way.
Scotj Criss says, "The MCA has potential in multi-cultural artistic growth exposure. We have so many ideas and are also open to ideas from the public, as it is the public that will keep the artists and the MCA popular and in demand."
The grand opening was a resounding success, which was contributed to by many friends, helping in a lot of ways. Preparation took over four weeks of planning and delegating different tasks amongst those friends. Some of the friends who should be recognized for their hard work are Chule919 Mayo, Pyrotechnician, who set up the fireworks as a gift to the museum for the opening event; Giancarlo Takacs, Costa Rica sim owner, who was terrific in helping landcape the gallery grounds to fit with existing gardens and blend in, and Scope Cleaver, the talented architect who designed and redesigned the MCA building, a masterpiece in itself.
The Criss' like to contact artists immediately when they see an artist's work that they are interested in showing at the MCA. Each artist is showcased for approximately 30 days to give them ample exposure and opportunity.
They feel that "art holds no boundaries", so they look for original and adventurous ideas in the artists they show, and use the display as an extension of the art itself. Katerina Burner says, "The artists chosen for the opening were those we found that did not hold to one theme. They created pieces that made you want to sit and look and think; maybe stir is the best word."
"We hope the experience (of visiting the MCA) will give viewers the opportunity to see great art of different styles at different times and to be able to enjoy it as much as we do; also to bring cultures together and groups of interesting people to one focal point and add cultural diversity and intergration in areas we all love." says Scotj Criss. "Art, music, fashion and expression of thought in writing."
